Drive to Save Lives Campaign
NEW YORK STATE (WENY) -- New York State Police are joining law enforcement departments in 40 other states in a special campaign to save lives. It's called the 'Drive to Save Lives Campaign, and the goal is to reduce highway fatalities by 15 percent this year.
More than 30,000 deaths happen each year on the nation's roadways, even though most crashes are preventable. Most of the campaign in New York will focus on the 1-90 corridor, which is the longest interstate in the U.S.
The year long effort will focus on seat belt and speed enforcement, and targeting distracted and drunk drivers.
