Elmira (WENY) - Community members are stepping up to help the children who lost their parents in a fatal car crash, and they're raffling off 50 prizes to do it. A legion of volunteers were at the Elmira Jackals game tonight in yellow t-shirts that say the "Love is English" are helping the two boys of Ryan and Karen English, the parents who died in a car crash March 1st.
Tickets were $5 and all the proceeds will go to the English family fund to help pay lawyer bills and medical expenses The fundraiser included a raffle of more than 150 local businesses, who donated services and products to help raise money for the family.
“Ryan and Karen grew up here in the local area and knew a lot of people,” says family friend Thomas Clayton “A lot of us have family and kids of our own and if something like this happened to us we would want people to reach out for us and take care of our family.”
Another event is planned for April 20th at Tags in Big Flats to give 500 prizes away, the proceeds will also go to the English Family fund.
