Elmira (WENY) - A group of concerned neighbors are getting together to take a stand against drugs on their street and their bringing the fight to the City Hall. Some neighbors on the Southside of Elmira say they're sick of absentee landlords and renters they claim are selling drugs. A few of those neighbors made their complaints at the Elmira city council meeting this week. They are meeting on Sundays to come up with a plan. They say the drug problem on their streets and in Elmira is getting out of hand and want leaders to step up drug enforcement throughout the city. That's exactly what Mayor Sue Skidmore says she is going to do.
“We're fully staffed right now in the police department but we still need to do more. We still need rearrange ourselves to get that drug enforcement unit up working and solidified and that’s a thing I am really interested in doing for us.”
If you suspect drug activity on your street call the Elmira PD's tip line at 271-HALT or 271-4258.
