Gillibrand Pushes For Weatherization Funding
OWEGO---(WENY) Senator Kirsten Gillibrand and Congressman Richard Hanna are working togethe to save people in the Southern Tier hundreds on their energy bills. They are urging Congress to fund what's called the Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) and the State Energy program (SEP) to save area residents on their energy costs.
More than 2,000 local families are already on the waiting list. If the two programs get the funding they need, it could save households up to $400 a year. The Weatherization program works by making homes more energy efficient. The State Energy Program will help to fund the New York State Energy Research And Development Agency, to support a broad range of programs, including long-term energy planning and efforts to increase energy efficiency in public buildings.
