Elmira (WENY) -The Golden Glow fire department officially opened it's doors to its new fire station this evening. Planning for the 1,100 square foot fire station started nine years ago. Chemung County Executive Tom Santulli, Chemung County Under Sheriff Bill Shrom and others were on hand to help celebrate the new building. Golden Glow fire chief Randy Ziegenhagen says crews met every Tuesday night for the past three years to make plans for the new station, and broke ground last spring.

“Our old station was great back when it was built. Unfortunately our old station is outdated. We recently purchased a new truck we had to have it retro fitted to have it fit in the old station. We have no concerns now, we can fit anything we can get in,” says Randy.

The celebration continues with a pancake breakfast in the morning. The building will also play host to community events on a monthly basis.
