More Funding to Fight Hydrilla
ITHACA, NY (WENY) -- More federal funding is coming to Tompkins County for the fight against the invasive water plant Hydrilla.
Congressman Tom Reed announced the Hydrilla Task Force will get a $75,000 grant to help with the eradication effort in the Cayuga Inlet. The invasive species was first found in the inlet in 2011, and more recently discovered in Fall Creek this past summer.
Hydrilla can kill native plants, alter fish habitats and obstruct boating and swimming. The federal funding comes from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation.
