Man Accused of Intentional Gas Leak
Written By: Laura Caso
ELMIRA (WENY)--- An Elmira man is behind bars this morning, accused of breaking a natural gas line at a home with three children inside.
Police say Giovanni Jefferson, 30, disconnected part of a gas pipe during a dispute with his girlfriend. It happened in the basement of their home in Heritage Park around 3 Sunday morning.
Officials say, the victim tried to call 911 but Jefferson knocked the phone from her hand. She was able to free herself and ran to the neighbors for help. Officers were able to get the children out safely.
Jefferson has been charged with reckless endangerment, harassment, criminal mischief and endangering the welfare of a child. He's scheduled to appear in Elmira City Court at 9 Monday morning.
