UPATE: Police arrested 22 year old William Howard of Laurel, Maryland in connection to the robbery. Wellsboro police arrested Howard over the weekend; he was allegedly visiting a friend at Mansfield University. Howard is now in the Tioga County jail, awaiting extradition to New York state. 

   HORSEHEADS, NY (WENY) -- New York State Police are searching for a suspect who made off with thousands of dollars in jewelry from a store in the Arnot Mall.
       Police say a little around 1:30 Thursday afternoon, the man walked into Kay Jewelers, wearing a medical mask, while coughing. He asked to see a pair of diamond earrings and a matching necklace. While he had the earrings in his hand, he snatched the necklace from the clerk and ran.
      Police say the jewelry was valued at about $4,100 dollars.
      The suspect is described as between 5'7" and 6' tall, about 170 pounds and was wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, dark pants and white shoes. Anyone with information should call State Police in Horseheads at 607-739-8797.
