Meals on Wheels Volunteers Honored
CORNING (WENY) -- The Corning Meals on Wheels program recognized and honored its volunteers Wednesday at an annual luncheon. Last year the organization served more than 53,000 meals.
Leaders say that would not have been possible without their more than 150 wonderful volunteers who prepare and drive meals to needy people in the community. They estimate the volunteers work for last year to be worth more than a $130,000.
"The volunteers standing behind me they've driven over 47,000 miles to deliver these meals, just a fantastic group of folks and we can't show our appreciation enough," says David Smith, the executive director the Corning program.
