Minors No Longer allowed to Buy Dextromethorphan in NY
It is a common ingredient in cold medicine.
Starting tomorrow it will be illegal for minors to purchase products that contain dextromethorphan such as Nyquil. The bill signed into law on Friday also requires consumers be carded if they appear to be under the age of 25. The reason is that in past years minors have begun using medicine containing dextromethorphan to as recreational hallucinogenic drugs.
At Gerould pharmacy Monday afternoon Pharmacist Frank Steed said that anytime a minor purchases cold medicine it raises a red flag, and he supports the new rule.
