New Waterfront Development in Ithaca
June 26, 2012
ITHACA (WENY) -- A new waterfront project including townhouses, single family homes, walking trails and retail space is headed for the Cayuga Inlet. The Cascadilla Landing development project would be built along the Cayuga Inlet near the municipal golf course on eight acres.
The project would be built in three phases, taking about five years. Although planners didn't know the exact costs, they say taxpayer money will be used to pay for the project. In total, this project could house about 300 families, and developers hope to get local businesses inside the retail space.
"This is a really wonderful opportunity for Ithaca because we don't have anything quite like this," says JoAnn Cornish, Planning and Develpment Director for the city of Ithaca. "Similar to other upstate cities, we haven't really taken advantage of the waterfront. So this is really the first thing like this in the city, and we're very excited."
Developers hope to break ground on the first phase in spring 2013.
