Corning (WENY) - One Corning congregation is baffled after police discovered their former leader was stealing from the church. Police say the former Pastor Rev. Christopher Mathewson is charged with a felony for allegedly taking more than 18 thousand dollars from his old church.
Mathewson was pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Corning from 2007 to 2011. A complaint accuses him of stealing the money by using the pastor's discretionary fund and the deacon's emergency fund. It also accuses him of using an American Express credit card and another credit card. Mathewson was arraigned Tuesday in Bath Village Court and released on his own recognizance.
