Preparing for Disasters
ELMIRA (WENY) -- Elmira College is wrapping up the winter session of its Disaster Management certificate course this weekend. It's a non-credit course that teaches students about planning for potential disasters on a procedural level.
The class utilizes models of the city for students to plan out escape routes and for other activities. Class leaders say it's a great management resource for people in both the private and government sectors.
"The course basically helps practitioners both in the public and private sectors prepare for emergencies and disasters and to help them understand how they should go about preparing for and responding to, and managing incidents," says Paul Garten who is an adjunct professor at the college.
For those not in the class, the state is hosting a special citizen preparedness training program on Saturday at Binghamton University. To learn more, and to register for the training on Saturday, March 15 at Binghamton University, click the link below.
