NEW YORK (WENY) Tuesday's primary election determines the November slate of congressional races.

U.S. Senator for New York, Kirsten Gillibrand will face a Republican opponent Today, Republicans across the Empire State will choose Gillibrand's contender.

The republican candidates are lawyer Wendy Long, Nassau County Comptroller George Maragos and U.S. Representative Bob Turner

In the Southern Tier, Democrats are picking Republican Congressman Tom Reed's November opponent.

This is the first election since the latest once-a-decade process of redrawing district lines. New York lost two districts, the old 9th and the former 22nd.

The candidates for the new 23rd district are Tompkins County Legislator Nate Shinagawa, attorney Leslie Danks Burke and attorney Melissa Dobson.

Polls are open from noon until 9 p.m. Tuesday.
