Reed Declares Victory
It was a long night and a close race for the new 23rd congressional district -- and when it was all over, local republicans celebrated at the Corning Radisson by lining up and kicking in time the the tune of "New York, New York" .
Democrat Nate Shinagawa put up a good fight in the Republican dominated Southern Tier. But as the final vote-counts were still coming in, it became clear to Tom Reed's team that he is not only the current Congressman representing the 29th District -- He's now the Congressman Elect for the new 23rd District.
WENY-TV News Director, Scott Cook, asked Reed what it was that made him and his campaign team finally say, "We got this". Reed responded: "Once we saw the total numbers from Tompkins County, and then we saw the areas still coming in and reporting, we knew the numbers were going our way."
