Congressman Tom Reed Co-Chairs Manufacturing Caucus
CORNING (WENY)--- Congressman Tom Reed announced he's taking over as the Co-Chair of the Manufacturing caucus.
Reed is joining forces with the other side of the aisle, Democrat Congressman Tim Ryan of Ohio.
Ryan and Reed will head roundtable discussions and work to increase manufacturing in America rather than overseas. Reed says natural gas drilling as a key component to the plan.
In 2012, Private Pennsylvania landowners raked in $1.2 billion dollars from the hydrofracking boom.
Reed said, "This is a game-changer, and it's a game changer because it allows us for the first time to control that energy that is necessary to produce those manufacturing sites and products that are going to ignite this renaissance."
University of Pennsylvania Professor, Robert Inman, says the royalty windfalls are good for individuals, but not a big factor in the overall economy.
