Twin Tiers Storm Damage

The high winds and rain will be pounding the area over the next day or so, but damage caused by the storm is already here.

Twin Tiers (WENY) - The high winds and rain will be pounding the area over the next day or so, but damage caused by the storm is already here. First responders here in the Twin Tiers have been fighting everything from downed power lines to fires. Hurricane sandy may be landing on the east coast but this massive storm is making an impact here in the Twin Tiers. Right from the start the high winds are causing serious damage. All flights in and out of Elmira corning regional airport were canceled early this afternoon. The usually bustling transportation hub looked like a ghost town. A tree is down on Dunn road and with it power lines, igniting a fire. The Two people inside were able to get out safely. In Big flats the winds were tearing signs right out of the ground. It took out the sign for an exit in big flats near the Elmira Corning Regional Airport. Tonight in Horseheads, a tree fell down and blocked a road for more than half an hour. Residents like Garrette Briggs live nearby, had to move it off the road themselves.

     “I've never seen a hurricane in new york before so its pretty cool,” says Briggs.

    If you see downed wires or damage in your area, do not go near it and call 911 immediately.
