Southport (WENY) -- Southport residents are up in arms over an unsightly house that went up in flames this past February.
The house that caused the uproar was being rented at the time of the fire, and was deemed uninhabitable months ago. The owner has since put the property on the market, but it has not moved fast enough for some. A next door neighbor offered to pay the owner $10,000 to tear it down.
Though unsightly, appearance is not the only reason people want to see it gone. Neighbors have been complaining of rats and snakes coming out of the debris and on to their property, posing health and safety risks.
"I wish they would just tear it down personally. It's an eyesore; it's dangerous," says Bart Curtis, a Southport resident. "There's a house that's right in back of me, the white house, it's a daycare center. There are children there and if one of them wandered over there, it could be a problem," he adds.
A Code Enforcement Officer for Southport says that if the owner doesn't take action, the town will likely hire someone to tear it down and charge the owner.
