TCAT Employee Embezzles $247,000
TOMPKINS CO. (WENY) -- Tompkins County officials had another employee criminal case on their hands. A TCAT worker has been accused of embezzling almost $250,000.
Pamela Johnson was in court on April 2. She's been charged with grand larceny. Investigators say the TCAT worker diverted $247,000 to an unauthorized bank account, disguised as payments to a TCAT vendor.
Police uncovered the vendor never actually worked with area transit company, and that Johnson was controlling the account.
Tompkins County and Ithaca city leaders sent outa statement, shortly after Johnson's arraignment. They wrote:
"We demand the recovery to TCAT of all available assets identified by the work of the Ithaca Police Department and District Attorney Gwen Wilkinson. We are confident the TCAT Board will take swift action to review and improve the agency's system of internal controls to make sure this can't happen again."
