Twin Tiers (WENY) - A few different proposals have been offered up as a solution for the Government shut down as well as the debt ceiling. Congressman Tom Reed is now proposing his own bill called the “Honest Proposal”. He addressed the media today and talked specifics of his new bill.
Co-sponsored by Congressman Cory Gardner from Colorado, the “Honest Proposal” would address the issues in three phases using trigger dates. Phase one would raise the debt ceiling until December 31st and reopen the government before October 17th. Phase two; tackle the budget issues like reducing mandatory entitlement programs and line items. Phase three would aim to create automatic raises for the debt ceiling. It also leaves The Affordable Health Care Act intact.
Reed says he believes the president and other members of the house and senate would be for his proposal because is moves away from the "govern by crisis" model.
“I believe that is the responsible approach to take and because I care about America and the state we find her in today it is time to deal with these issues once and for all.”
Reed says there are some interest in his bill and that House Speaker John Boehner is aware of it.
