Vacant Walmart May Be Torn Down
BIG FLATS (WENY) -- The former Walmart building in Consumer Square in Big Flats could be coming down, after sitting vacant for several years.
Chemung County Planning Board Director Randy Olthof tells WENY HD News the board will review the project next week. The property owner, DDR Corporation, submitted plans to raze the 122,000 square foot building. In its place, DDR wants to build a 49,300 square foot retail space, with adjacent outdoor area.
The project still needs approval from the town of Big Flats.
The Consumer Square location has been vacant for at least five years, after Walmart relocated to Southern Tier Crossing in Horseheads.
