Special Weather Announcement for Elmira

The following is a press release from the city of Elmira:

  • Due to the pending storm, the City of Elmira will be offering free parking in the Centertown Parking Garage effective immediately until Wednesday, October 31, 2012 at 12:00 noon.
 
  • Tuesday’s sanitation will be suspended and will be picked up along with Wednesday’s sanitation.
 
  • A reminder to all citizens if a power outage occurs and traffic signals are not operating, all intersections become a four-way stop.
 
  • City storm drains will most likely reach capacity and overflow causing flooding on streets.  Low lying areas, particularly at the underpasses will flood.  The City will be closing off streets.  Only travel if necessary.
 
  • Stay away from downed power lines.  Remember that trees are weakened from the tornado this past summer.
