Local Politicians Sworn In

WASHINGTON D.C. (WENY) -- Politicians representing the people of the Twin Tiers were sworn in to Congress Thursday.

“When I was sworn into Congress for the first time two years ago, I stressed the need to tackle our unsustainable debt and get our financial priorities straight so that we can bring jobs to the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes,” says Congressman Tom Reed. “I’m here today to continue the fight and am optimistic that our freshman – now sophomore class – will continue to lead.”

Reed is serving his second two-year term in the U.S. House of Representatives. He is representing the new 23rd Congressional District, covering the Southern Tier and Finger Lakes regions.

Democrats Kirsten Gillibrand of New York and Bob Casey of Pennsylvania are returning to the U.S. Senate.

"This is a great honor to be elected and serve a second term in the U.S. Senate. We're looking forward to it because we have a lot of work to do to make sure we keep our economy moving and not to allow the politics of Washington to slow it down," says Casey.
