PHILADELPHIA (WENY)---Pennsylvania's longest-serving U.S. Senator, Alen Specter, has passed away.

He was a prominent former moderate in the U.S. Senate who developed the single-bullet theory in President John F. Kennedy's assassination. He also played starring roles in Supreme Court confirmation hearings.
In a statement, Governor Tom Corbett says Pennsylvania has lost quote "a political figure whose career stretched from Philadelphia's City Hall to the chambers of the U.S. Senate."
