Bill To Stop The Spread Of Aquatic Invasive Species
June 23, 2014
NEW YORK (WENY)- New York State Senate leaders are on the final steps to approve a bill that would help stop the spread of aquatic invasive species. The Department of Environmental Conservation is working on rules and regulations that would prevent the spread. Boaters will be required to take precautions by removing all visible plants and animals from, or washing, draining and drying watercraft and related gear when entering and leaving a launch site. Meanwhile, estimates have pegged the annual cost of invasive species to the national economy at $120 billion a year.
