Sen. Bob Casey Wins Re-Election in PA
SCRANTON, Pa. (AP) - Pennsylvania Democratic Sen. Bob Casey says he's got a lot of work to do after winning a second term Tuesday, including trying to bridge partisan divides in Congress on economic and other issues.
Casey withstood a spending spree by Republican coal-industry millionaire Tom Smith, cementing a seat Democrats were counting on in their struggle to hold control of the U.S. Senate.
Speaking to a boisterous crowd of supporters in Scranton, Casey said he would return to Washington to help middle-class families,
In his concession speech at a Pittsburgh hotel, Smith called for Republicans and Democrats to work together. Smith invested more than $16 million of his own money in the race, hammering Casey for months in TV and radio ads and forcing Casey to mount a strong response in the campaign's final weeks.
