Flood Money for ’Earth Movement’ Damage

Flood Money for ’Earth Movement’ Damage

(WENY)-- The state of New York is offering money to homeowners affected by Hurricane Irene, Tropical Storm Lee and Superstorm Sandy.

Governor Andrew Cuomo made the announcement Saturday. The Housing Recovery Program would fully compensate owners based on damage to their homes due to earth movement.

This type of damage is not covered under FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program. However, it does cover damage done directly by flood waters. That's caused hundreds of people to have their NFIP claims denied. In a move to close this gap, Cuomo said homeowners will now see some help.
