Southern Tier (WENY) - Local leaders are working to make the Southern Tier a cleaner and greener place to live. The “Cleaner Greener Southern Tier Plan” will use $1 million in state aide to help focus communities in eight different counties on becoming more environmentally friendly. Tonight and over the next two days, ideas will be presented to the public for feedback. Some ideas on the table include, creating a regional transportation system that's environmentally friendly, manage and upgrade existing water, sewer, and other utility infrastructure to reduce energy use, and promote innovative waste reduction and management strategies. Committee member, Marcia Weber says their team has been working hard to come up with solutions, and now they're looking for the public's input to finalize the plan.

“The plan that we've written on a number of other plans in the whole region we've taken together the best that everyone has to offer and we've added a lot,” says Weber.

The million dollar grant was awarded through the Southern Tier Economic Development Council. If you would like to see and vote on the plan go to http://cleanergreenersoutherntier.org/
