Proposed Changes to State Alcohol Limits
(WENY)-- A leading government Safety board wants to toughen alcohol limits for drivers. The National Transportation Safety Board is calling on the U.S. to lower the allowable blood alcohol level for drivers by 35 percent.
That would change the BAC from .08 percent down to .05 percent. Another recommendation would require DUI offenders to have ignition interlock devices.
That means, drivers would need to provide breath samples before they can turn their car on.
To put that into perspective, an 180-pound male who drinks three beers in an hour would reach A blood-alcohol level of 0.05.
