Alix’s Law Passes NY Senate
State lawmakers have passed a new bill designed to keep drivers from leaving the scene of an accident.
Monday, the New York State Senate passed Alix's Law -making it illegal for drivers to leave the scene after hitting any object. It aims to close a legal loophole and hold intoxicated drivers accountable for leaving the scene of an accident.
The new bill comes after 18-year-old Alix Rice was killed by a drunk driver while riding her long-board home back in 2011. The driver was acquitted on a felony charge of leaving the scene of an accident, after saying he was unaware that he had hit a person.
