HORSEHEADS (WENY) -- DeMet's Candy Company, a local chocolatier, has a new owner.
According to a press release WENY received directly from their old owners, Brynwood Partners VLP, they are selling its investment in DeMet's Candy Company for $221 million dollars. The new owner is Yildiz Holdings, owner of the Godiva chocolate brand.
DeMet's Candy is headquartered in Stamford Connecticut but has two nearby facilities, one in Mohnton, PA and one in Horseheads. They employ about 150 people here locally. Officials at the plant tell WENY that no one will be losing their jobs and the plant will remain open.
It's all expected to go through by January 2014.
