New York (WENY) - New York Yogurt is already in High demand, and now Senator Schumer says it will also help feed kids for the national school lunch program. It's part of a new pilot program started by the U.S. Department of agriculture. The idea is to buy locally produced Greek yogurt for regional school lunch programs. The move is cost effective and gets yogurt into schools before it goes bad. Three other states are testing the same model, including Tennessee, Idaho, and Arizona. Schumer says the effort should further boost demand for New York yogurt companies and their dairy suppliers.
