I Love NY: Tourism Up in 2013

ALBANY, NY (WENY) -- 219 million people came to the state in 2013, that's a 4% increase from last year. Tourism in New York fueled $61 billion dollars in spending which is up 7 percent from 2012.
Events like the PGA Championship in Rochester and food festivals helped gain more visitors. The Cuomo administration has made it a priority to showcase the Empire State as the go-to destination for tourists.
The boom helped creates some jobs too in a report from Governor Cuomo's office. Tourism industry accounts for one in 12 jobs in New York.
In our area tourism indicators were down throughout 2013, but did show improvement as the year went on.
