NY Gunman's Cellphone Records Show Creditor Calls
HERKIMER, N.Y. (AP) - Investigators scouring cellphone records of a man who fatally shot four people in two upstate New York villages found no calls from family or friends in the seven months before the killings.
Police are still trying to determine why 64-year-old Kurt Myers opened fire last month in a barber shop in Mohawk and a car care business in neighboring Herkimer. Two others were wounded in the March 13 shootings. Myers has been described as a loner.
The Observer-Dispatch of Utica reports that most of the 150 to 200 phone calls Myers received on his TracFone since September were from creditors seeking to collect on more than $21,000 in credit card debt. One call came an hour before the rampage.
Myers died in a police shootout the next day.
