Insulin Patients May Have Been Exposed to HIV, Heptatitis

OLEAN, NY (WENY) -- Another upstate New York hospital is notifying patients they may have been exposed to diseases through shared insulin pens.
Olean General Hospital in Cattaragus County is notifying more than 1,900 patients who received insulin at the hospital from November 2009 through last week. The hospital is recommending they have their blood tested, as they may have been exposed to HIV, Hepatitis B or Hepatitis C.
The multi-use pens are intended for use by a single patient. The news comes after the V.A. hospital in Buffalo announced a similar discovery last week.
