Stiffer Penalties For Texting And Driving
If you're still texting and driving in New York, it could soon cost you big time. If you get caught, you face being fined up to $400.00. The hike is part of the state budget which is expected for approval this week. Talking on your cell phone with out a hands-free device will cost you $150.00 for a first time offense. Fines will go up to $200.00 two violations within 18 months. The fine goes up to $400.00 for three violations within an 18 month period.
Police issued nearly 26,000 texting-while-driving-violations from January to November of 2012. That is compared to 9,000 in all of 2011.
