July 4th Driving Crackdown
ALBANY (WENY) -- You know it's illegal.... But some people do it anyway. And state police are looking to catch you.
New York State Police will be cracking down on texting behind the wheel for the fourth of July holiday weekend. Troopers will be going undercover in traffic to catch drivers in the act. The move comes just days after Governor Cuomo signed a law with tougher penalties for probationary and junior drivers. All drivers caught texting while driving face five points on their license, and fines.
In 2012, over 30,000 tickets were issued for texting while driving in New York. That's a 234% increase from 2011.
