Texting Zones For NY Drivers
ALBANY, NY (WENY) -- Travelers on major highways and New York's thruway will notice new signs that are part of a campaign against texting while driving. The state is rolling out nearly 300 blue signs directing drivers to "text stops."
The signs have messages like "it can wait - text stop 5 miles". The signs direct drivers to "texting zones" at rest stops, pull offs, and park and ride lots.
During a summer crackdown, state police issued more than 21,000 tickets for distracted driving. That's up from 5,200 in summer of 2012.
