ALBANY (WENY)---The New York Senate is also voting to prohibit the use of welfare debit cards to buy cigarettes, alcohol, gambling and strip clubs.

Ten states have implemented the ban and New York may follow suit.

New york Democrats say the state could lose $125 million in federal funding tied to the federal initiative if restrictions aren't put in place.

The Senate bill was supported Tuesday by most Democrats.

Now it goes to the Democrat-led Assembly.
