JACKSON TWP., PA (WENY) - The first bridge replaced under the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation's Rapid Bridge Replacement Project for 2017 was completed Thursday.

Officials cut the ribbon on the new Route 549 bridge over Seeley Creek in Jackson Township. The project is part of a statewide initiative replacing nearly 560 bridges throughout the state. Construction started in early February.

The construction company also presented a check for $2,074.32 to the Mansfield University Student Veterans Organization. The donation amount totaled the cost of supplies needed to build a veteran’s memorial on campus.

"We discovered Mansfield University through this bridge construction project and the student veterans organization. They had a need to have some funding for a veterans memorial project, and we covered the cost for all the materials to build that," McKenzi Loid, Public Information Manager for Plenary Walsh Keystone partners.

The memorial will display names of Mansfield University veteran graduates and students who served in the military and died while attending Mansfield University.
