Southern Tier, N.Y. (WENY)-- Construction work is expected to start Monday that will detour late night and early morning traffic off of I-86.
Eastbound I-86 traffic from exit 46 and 47 will be directed onto State Route 352 between 8:00pm and 6:00am. All eastbound traffic will be required to exit the highway at Exit 45, travel east on State Route 352, through the City of Corning, for approximately 5 miles then re-enter the highway at the 47 Interchange, located just east of Gibson. The construction is part of the I-86 pavement rehabilitation project.
Westbound traffic will also be detoured starting Monday. Westbound traffic will leave the highway at Exit 47, head west on SR 352 through the City of Corning, then re-enter the highway at the 44 interchange in Painted Post. An alternate route will be provided for westbound drivers trying to access I-99. They'll be diverted to SR 414 North, and they'll re-enter the highway at the 46 interchange just north of the city.
These detour routes will only be used when work is in effect. Construction crews won't be working every night. The occasional detours are expected to last through late October.
