ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- To build,or not to build... That was the was the question surrounding the proposed expansion for the Tompkins County Jail.
According to the state-mandated study, the report does not recommend building a new jail or expanding the number of beds. The report goes on to say that the jail population is highly likely to decline by 2020 and beyond.
The study was sanctioned after a Tompkins County Legislative committee was looking into ways to decrease the jail population.
Representatives that conducted the study will formally present the report to the Jail Study Committee on July 20th. The meeting will take place at 5:00PM at The Tompkins County Legislature Chambers.
Public comment on the report will be invited.
