BIG FLATS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Firefighters around Chemung County gathered together on Sunday for a training exercise.
Several departments were in Sperr Memorial Park from 8 AM until around noon.
The exercises were to train firefighters how to use the county's foam dispersal unit.
The unit is used when dealing with ethanol or petroleum-based fires.
During the exercises, crews practiced using hydrants around the county to supply the water for the non-toxic foam.
"Today was really getting the foam trailer up here in the hands of volunteers so they can see how it works," said Chemung County Fire and Emergency Management Deputy Director, Kristin Card. "To practice delivering the water, filling up the tankers, doing the shuttle and seeing how that firefighting foam trailer works."
Due to the amount of Petroleum-based fuels being shipped in the area, New York State positioned the fire fighting foam trailer in the City of Elmira.
