Local man looks to help abandoned Elmira baby

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Jeffery Billiot is just a normal guy who works hard to provide for his family.

But when he heard the story about the abandoned baby, he knew he had to do something to help.

Billiot was out having dinner with his wife when he saw the story of the baby girl on Facebook and his fatherly instinct kicked in.

He immediately left the restaurant, picked up his kids and they all went to Walmart to pick up stuff for the baby.

He has never met the baby girl, or her anyone from her family. He just acted out of the kindness of his heart to make the girl's life a little better.

"I just reacted," said Horseheads resident, Jeffery Billiot. "I didn't care how much I spent. I actually spent more than I actually spent more than what I thought I was going to spend. Like when I was cashing out I was like, 'wow!' I didn't think about that. It wasn't a thought. It's just that this little girl I wanted to feel comfortable and happy again."

Billiot went out and bought her a couple outfits, socks, shoes,  underwear, a night gown, a stuffed animal and some food.

He delivered it to the hospital in the hopes that she'd get all of it and make her feel comfortable and loved.

Billiot hopes others will step up and do what they can to help turn a bad situation into something positive.
