Watkins Glen, N.Y. (WENY)-- IndyCar weekend at Watkins Glen International is just a few weekends away, but when race weekend gets here, there will be more than just Indy cars taking the track.
WGI announced the addition of the SPEED Energy Stadium Super Trucks (SST) to the race lineup during IndyCar weekend. The SST series features 12 identically prepared horsepower trucks. The SST races also features 26-inch tall aluminum ramps in different locations around the track. The trucks can get up to 20 feet off the ground, and can hit speeds of up to 140mph.
“If there is anything that can add even more excitement to our INDYCAR Grand Prix at The Glen race weekend, it’s Robby Gordon and his series,” said Watkins Glen International President Michael Printup in a press release. “This is going to be unlike anything that our fans have ever seen at Watkins Glen International. Personally, I’m very curious to see how those trucks get around America’s fastest road course.”
The SST series will be on the track three times throughout the weekend. Qualifying will be on Friday, September 1st at 11:15am. The first race will be Saturday, September 2nd at 12:30pm, and the final race will happen on Sunday at 12:10pm, just before the Verizon IndyCar Series race.
