NEW YORK (WENY) - Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced the results of the "Speed Week" enforcement campaign.
NYSP issued more than 21,000 tickets during the campaign to crackdown on speeding and aggressive driving. Troopers issued 9,205 tickets for speeding, 348 for distracted driving and arrested 234 people for driving while impaired. State Police also responded to 268 personal injury accidents, which resulted in five fatalities and 393 people injured.
In the Southern Tier, state police issued a total of 1,504 tickets. This includes 798 for speeding, 15 for DWI, and 33 for the failing to obey the Move Over law.
The enforcement period ran from August 2nd to August 8th.
