ALBANY N.Y. (WENY) -- Governor Andrew Cuomo announces $3.6 million will be awarded to Southern Tier farms in an effort to boost agricultural production.

45 projects have been awarded across five counties to help increase agricultural production and enhance environmental protections.

The money comes from the second round of the Southern Tier Agricultural Industry Enhancement Program.

The program helps farmers and agribusinesses expand and improve their operations, while promoting the responsible use and protection of the state's natural
resources.

Multiple farms in our region will receive funding through the initiative.

In Steuben County, 14 projects will receive $1,037,568. In Tioga County, NY, 3 projects will receive $198,712. And in Tompkins County, 10 projects will receive
$729,610.

The funding will be used for costs associated with construction, renovation, irrigation, drainage, fencing, trellis systems, greenhouses, and environmental
enhancements.
