Elmira Police investigating alleged attempted robbery

ELMIRA, NY (WENY) - Elmira Police are investigating an alleged attempted robbery near Walnut Street.

Police responded to the intersection of Walnut Street and W. 4th Street around 2:15pm for a report of an injured male. Officers found a 35-year-old Elmira man suffering from a wound to his head and one of his hands. 

He told police two black men approached him and demanded money. One of the men allegedly had a handgun. The victim told police he heard two gunshots and believed he had been shot.

Police say the two men left the scene on foot without taking anything from the victim. Police do not know the exact location of the incident.

The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The cause and severity of his wounds have not been determined at this time.
