Local organizations get funding for emergency home repairs

Posted: Updated:

ELMIRA, NY (WENY) - Two local Habitat for Humanity chapters have received state funding to help local elderly homeowners with emergency repairs.

The Chemung and Steuben county chapters of Habitat for Humanity are working together on the repairs.

The funding covers emergency situations, such as leaking pipes, broken toilets, faulty electrical systems, and water heater or furnace failure. It comes from the RESTORE NY grant.

Residents of Chemung and Steuben counties who are 60 years or older, who own the home they live in, and who meet certain income criteria are eligible to receive repairs.

Residents of Chemung County should call 607-734-1631 or email info@chemungcountyhabitat.org. Steuben County residents should call 607-936-4444 or email info@habitatcorning.org.
