HORSEHEADS, NY (WENY) - The Arnot Mall has announced a major redevelopment project in honor of the mall's 50th anniversary.

The mall celebrated its 50th anniversary Friday night by highlighting its past 50 years and unveiling upcoming redevelopment.

The mall was opened on November 16th, 1967 with 34 stores. Since then, the mall has expanded twice, once in 1980 and once in 1981. The mall also added the Regal Cinemas in 1988.

During the event, Arnot Reality President, Peter Dugo, announced a major redevelopment project for the mall. The project includes building a Holiday Inn Express & Suites in the former Bon Ton location and creating a "hospitality, food/beverage and entertainment neighborhood" at the mall.

As part of the 50th Anniversary celebration, the mall announced a $50,000 donation to local charities, including the Foodbank of the Southern Tier, the United Way of the Southern Tier, The Arc Chemung, Five Rivers Council-Boy Scouts of America and Arctic League.
